I was onboard approximately a dozen Chinese warships between January 1994 and April 2014, in addition to visiting various People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) shore installations and PLA Academies. Red Shark’s officers and enlisted crew were well-trained, dedicated to ship, and shipmates, and loyal in at least a remote sort of way to China and the CCP, but unable to overcome organizational and planning weaknesses.
