Remembering Timothy E. Daly, Class of 1987

RICHMOND, Va. – LTC Timothy Edward Daly (RET), 74, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 in Richmond, VA from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP, a rare Parkinsonian disorder). He passed peacefully in the company of family.

He is survived by long-time companion Virginia 'Ginny' Lautieri of Portsmouth, RI; two daughters, Denise Daly Konrad (m. Otto) of Richmond and Eileen (Daly) Vitelli (m. Mark) of Washington, DC; their mother, Mary Jane (Drucker) Daly Gabbay of Fairfax, VA; grandson, Jebediah; brothers, Dennis of Houston, TX and Kevin of Montgomery, AL; and sister, Maureen (m. Fred Phillips), of Fredericksburg, VA.

He was preceded in death by parents Arthur and Dorothy (O'Connor) Daly, and grandson Lark Konrad.

Tim was born in Queens, NY, and lived around the world. He graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY (B.S. 1966); and Syracuse University, Syracuse NY (M.S., 1974; M.A., 1975). Lieutenant Colonel Daly was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran (23 years' service) and a Professional Engineer.

Tim will be remembered for his enthusiastic smile and twinkle in his eyes. He reached his goals of skiing into his 60's, and owning a sailboat and vintage Porsche. He loved dancing and music, especially jazz, blues, and rock n' roll. He was interested in geology and genealogy. He was active in several sailing associations, and taught sailing to U.S. Naval Academy midshipman and many, many others. He followed his passion for sailing to Newport, RI, where he was active in Coaster's Harbor Navy Yacht Club and where he met Ginny.

He moved to Richmond, VA to be near his daughters, following his PSP diagnosis.
